Team Visma | Lease a Bike looks back on the 2024 season with a smile and a tear in its eye. Everyone was certainly aware that it would be difficult to respond to the incredible 2023 season with a similarly crowned year; unfortunately, the injuries of Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert in the spring quickly put paid to any plans for another Grand Tours triple for the men.
On paper, at the end of the 2024 season, there are still stage wins in all three Grand Tours by Olaf Kooij, Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert, an incredible second place in the overall classification at the Tour de France for Jonas, and the sprint classification for Marianne Vos. The Classics also went very well, with Olaf Kooij, Riejanne Markus and Christophe Laporte among the winners. Several of the team's riders also won medals at the Olympic Games in Paris: Silver for Anne Henderson and Marianne Vos, bronze for Christophe Laporte and Wout van Aert.
The latter finally seemed to be back in his usual top form after his serious crash at the Vuelta a Espana in the spring, and started the 16th stage both as leader in the sprint classification and as leader in the mountain classification - but had to abandon the race prematurely due to a serious knee injury. After van Aert's withdrawal, the rest of the Vuelta was unsuccessful for the team; the shock was too deep and Sepp Kuss had invested too much in the sprint victories of his leader.
Fortunately, the fall also brought good news: not only is van Aert's recovery progressing steadily, but the team also has the new European men's time trial champion in Eduardo Affini and the UCI Gravel World Champion in Marianne Vos.
So there was a lot to celebrate, but the many serious injuries of the season can - at least in our opinion - stay in 2024 and not come into the new season. In addition to the farewells of Robert Gesink, who is ending his incredible career, Jan Tratnik, who is moving to RedBull-Bora-Hansgrohe, and Anne Henderson, who is going to Lidl Trek, we are very excited about the signings of British mountain veteran and Vuelta winner Simon Yates, and especially the U23 world champion Niklas Behrens from Bremen! In addition, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, the gold medal winner in mountain biking, will be riding for the Visma | Lease a Bike Women's Team from next season on.
For the upcoming final races and the new season, we wish the riders of the three teams every success and we at Lease a Bike Germany wish them all the best of luck and hope that they are spared any injuries.
The Visma | Lease a Bike team finished the Tour de France Femmes with the green jersey and also rode an impressive Grand Tour. The documentary Inside the Beehive shows the riders, the team, the defeats and triumphs up close.
In addition to the Pon brands Cervelo and Skoda, Lease a Bike will also be on the list of sponsors of the Jumbo-Visma team from January 1, 2023. This means that Lease a Bike will be seen on the jerseys of Wout van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard and Marianne Vos, among others, throughout the 2023 cycling season. Of course, the connection between Lease a Bike and Team Jumbo-Visma is quickly made: the bike! But we don't just see the bike as a means to get from A to B, it is rather a way to do good for your health, your wallet and the environment.
The former Team Jumbo-Visma, which had a historic season with victories in all three grand tours, will continue as Team Visma | Lease a Bike from January 1, 2024. Visma and Lease a Bike have both signed a contract as title sponsors for an indefinite period.
August has so far been a very successful month for Team Visma | Lease a Bike: Riders of both the Men's and the Women's Team were able to shine at the Tour de Femmes, the Tour de Pologne and the Vuelta a Espana.
